Why I do this

Sixty six years with my first patient

At age four, I examined my first patient: my teddy bear, TD Bear, with a stethoscope. Sixty six years later I still have that patient, my beloved bear, worn and mended. I would still treat him as I did as a child.

The science

I trained as a molecular biologist to understand the inner workings of the physical body. I graduated from Des Moines University as a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine in 1989 (a DO is a physician, like an MD, with added training in hands on bodywork) and completed my residency in internal medicine by 1994.

Beyond the standard model

Learning the limitations of standard Western medicine, I completed the Fellowship in Integrative Medicine at the University of Arizona School of Medicine under Dr. Andrew Weil in 2002. I also have extensive training in medical Qigong and distant energy healing from my principal mentor, Rosalyn L. Bruyere, D.D., and others.

Wellness is happiness, and happiness is impossible without wholeness.

So I learned to attend to people's personal concerns, their emotions, and even their soul and spiritual work. I want the people around me to have this experience as well.

Thirty seven years of searching

Since graduating in 1989, I have spent 37 years searching out techniques and technologies that work. Much of the best of it has never been incorporated into standard medicine, yet it remains as powerful as the day I found it. I look for portable, effective, low cost technologies of high integrity that produce scientifically validated, or validatable, results. Among my favorites is Bio-Tuning®, developed by Dr. Jeffrey D. Thompson, whom I have known since about 2001. Some years ago we were both concerned that his technology, which is fabulous, was not reaching the general public the way it should.

Why resorts, spas, gyms, and beyond?

Many of these methods will not reach the standard medical office any time soon. So Physician Wellness Services brings them to the places people already go to feel better: wellness resorts, day and aesthetic spas, massage studios, gyms and fitness centers, cruise lines and retreats. One day you may find Bio-Tuning® at your local spa, a vetted energy healer through your gym, and a PSYCH-K® facilitator online, all in one place. You are not limited to one kind of provider, or one kind of place. I personally vet every practitioner and technology here, which means I know they are good at what they do. What we offer is information, not medical advice: clear, carefully chosen, and yours to take to your own physician. Who you choose, what technology you choose, and where you go is always up to you. And because many of these places belong to networks around the world, a traveler and enjoyer of life can find similar programs wherever they go.

Validating integrative wellness: techniques, people, and technology.
